Culture Commons provided wraparound policy and advocacy services to the Centre for Cultural Value as part of the world’s largest research programme examining the impacts of Covid-19 on the creative, cultural and heritage sectors.
This major research project deepened understandings of the impacts Covid-19 had on cultural organisations, the cultural sector workforce, and audiences across the UK. It also identified the implications for what policies might be needed from national decision makers to respond to the crisis in real-time.
The research culminated in a detailed report entitled 'Culture in Crisis' - co-authored by Culture Commons Director, Trevor MacFarlane FRSA alongside leading academics.
Drawing on research findings, Culture Commons subsequently developed 12 policy recommendations based on research findings. This led to the production of bespoke policy briefings and regular meetings with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and senior parliamentarians.
Culture Commons also organised a series of high level roundtables and events to socialise the research findings, including a summit in the UK Parliament in May 2022 attended by the then Minster for the Arts and Culture, Lord Parkinson.
“Culture Commons have affected a step change in the traction that our research is getting with key policy stakeholders at all levels. I really can’t recommend them highly enough.”
