Culture Commons launches new policy recommendations in UK Parliament

Updated: Jun 15, 2023

Today, Culture Commons and our research partner Centre for Cultural Value launched 12 new policy recommendations, targeted at UK policymakers, to support the creative and cultural sector recover and rebuild in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Commissioned by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (part of UKRI) and delivered in partnership with The Audience Agency and the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre, the Centre for Cultural Value’s landmark ‘Culture in Crisis’ report of February 2022 summarised findings from one of the world’s largest investigations into the impact of COVID-19 on the cultural sector.

Since February, Culture Commons has been working with the senior team at the Centre to produce ‘Culture in Crisis: Recommendations for Policy Makers’, which builds on the findings of the original report to set out 12 targeted interventions that UK Government, devolved administrations and local authorities could make to support the rebuilding of the UK’s creative and cultural sectors in the wake of the devastating impact of Covid-19.

Later today, we'll present this report to senior policymakers within government and the creative and cultural industries, at a launch event in Parliament hosted by Baroness Blake of Leeds with a key note speech from UK Government's Minister for the Arts, Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay and the Shadow Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, Chi Onwurah MP.

It has been a pleasure to work with the Centre for Cultural Value on such a hugely important topic that has raised vital questions for the future of these sectors. We're excited to share our recommendations today, which we hope offer ways to rebuild in a more sustainable and equitable ways.
